The Rooks begin the game in each corner of the board. The rook is the second only to the Queen in terms of power. It moves forwards, backwards, left and right as far as it likes provided nothing gets in its way. It can be severly restricted by pawns and other pieces, though, so it is a good idea to place rooks on open files. |
