White - Steinitz; Black - von Bardeleben
Giuoco Piano
(Hastings 1895)
You chose 9 Bxd5.
Perhaps you thought that this move won a piece, because the knight
on c3 defends White's bishop? Sadly, the c3 Knight is pinned to
the White king and therefore does not defend the bishop on d5.
Black would recapture the bishop with his queen (either before or
after playing Bxc3) and then the isolated pawn on d4 may well become
weak.
