We have already seen how important it is to checkmate our opponent. However, in most positions it is not possible to get a checkmate straight away so we need to find some other ideas which will help us, and one of the most important of these is Capturing. Look at the diagram. In this situation, White has a Queen and Black has a Knight. Who is winning? Well, a Queen is worth 9 points and a Knight is worth only 3, so White is 6 points ahead. |
